The Vampire Diaries is a series developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, and is based on the critically acclaimed book series of the same name written by L.J. Smith. The series first premiered on The CW on September 10, 2009 and is one of the few TV series that 10 out of 12 months a year.  In case you didn't know The Vampire Diaries takes place in Mystic Falls, Virginia, a small town haunted and surrounded by vampires and werewolves. The show focuses on Elena Gilbert played by Nina Dobrev as she falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore and gets sucked into the supernatural world as a result. As the show progresses, Elena later becomes attracted to Stefan's brother Damon Salvatore played by creating a love triangle.

 The first episode of The Vampire Diaries was a major hit in 2006 with 3.60 million viewers. The Vampire Diaries remains the most watched series on the CW.
