After a reportedly fierce competition over the rights of the Bad Boys spinoff TV series starring Gabrielle Union, the upcoming TV series is headed to NBC with a pilot production commitment.
The TV pilot will center around Special Agent Syd Burnett character played by Union in 2003’s Bad Boys II who is making a cross-country move from Miami to Los Angeles.
The show comes from the Bad Boys movies’ producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad via his 2.0 Entertainment and Primary Wave Entertainment. Sony Pictures TV Studios, whose movie partner is behind the feature franchise, is the studio.
The untitled Bad Boys spinoff is being written by The Blacklist writers and producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier.
Gabrielle Union played Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett, who was introduced in the sequelBad Boys II as the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence). In the movie she was romantically involved with Marcus’ partner, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and worked as an undercover operative with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
This news comes after BET announced her popular Being Mary Jane series will end with a series finale movie.
