NBC pulls the plug on ‘Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris’.
NBC has canceled Neil Patrick Harris TV show after only one season, according to reports.
The network still plans on working with the Emmy Winning actor through a previous production deal between Prediction Productions, Harris’ production company.
The live TV program, which was based on the British TV series Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, featured stunts, performances, comedy sketches and celebrity appearances.
NBC has been actively creating more live TV shows such as The Wiz Live! and Best Time Ever in order to tap into more live viewers instead of having people DVR and watch episodes later. This comes after advertising dollars are more valuable with live TV programs in comparison to recorded TV shows.
However, unlike The Wiz Live! nobody really tuned in to watch Neil Patrick Harris. The TV series started with only 1.9 million viewers and quickly dropped to 1.3 million, which is not good news for any basic cable program.
Best Time Ever was Harris’ return to TV following his nine-year run on How I Met Your Mother. But, the Emmy winning actor has had a ton of experience working as a host as he worked on the Tonys, Emmys and Oscars in the past.
