Jim Carrey‘s I’m Dying Up Here gets picked up by Showtime Networks.
It must have been Jim Carrey’s hilarious Golden Globes speech that solidified the deal because, the actor has a brand new series for Showtime.
The series pick up was announced yesterday by Showtime CEO David Nevins during the Television Critics Association press tour.
I’m Dying Up Here centers around an infamous Los Angeles stand-up comedy scene set in the 1970s, when the careers of most comedy superstars started. According to Variety, the series will go into the damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious, but “compless business of making an audience laugh”. The TV series is based on William Knoedelseder’s book of the same name.
Melissa Leo stars in teh series, playing a comedy owner and works alongside Clark Duke, Ari Graynor, Andrew Santino, RJ Cyler, Erik Griffin and Stephen Guarino. Sebastian Stan will appear in a recurring role.
Jim Carrey will executive produce the series with Jonathan Levine directing the pilot, which shot last fall.
