The Walking Dead has a major plot hole problem and fans are getting pissed off.
While the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead may have left us wondering what is going to happen next, there was one scene where Rick and some of the gang needed to get to safer ground quickly, so they used a strategy that we saw way back in Season 1, covering themselves in zombie guts.
The scene showed that zombies won’t eat or attack the characters on the show as long as they have zombie guts on them. But, not too many people were happy with the scene and took to Twitter to voice their frustration.
I’ve never understood why the Walking Dead folks weren’t draped in walker guts all along. I would’ve been wearing brains as a hat every day.

Why don’t they just walk around covered in walker guts all the time?!? Seems obvious to me. #TheWalkingDead

Okay why haven’t they used the cover-yourself-in-walker-guts trick more often?!?!?! #TheWalkingDead

Which begs the question, why havent’ they used the walker guts trick more often? It seems pretty straightforward and common sense that every time they are in trouble, they could slap on some zombie guts perfume and walk around the woods. It’s cheap, it’s easy and super convenient.
You may recall, it was Glenn and Rick who smeared themselves in zombie guts in Season 1, Episode 2 of the series. The disguise helped the two walk around the zombies on the streets of Atlanta, until a rain started to wash off the smell. Despite the rain, the disguise lasted long enough for the pair to be able to finish their mission and rejoin the others.
It was not until the mid-season finale of Season 6 did we see the Walking Dead use the zombie guts suit again. So why don’t we see it used more often? Well, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman tried to explain why on The Talking Dead.
“There’s a lot of reasons for that. One, it’s not very practical, being in close contact with that material is also going to cause all sorts of illnesses aside from any kind of zombie-related nonsense, and you don’t want to be doing that all the time. Two, it’s not going to last, you would have to be replenishing those zombie guts constantly because they’re going to dry out, they’re going to lose their nastiness, they’re not going to smell. It’s just not a practical way to go about things.”
That sounds like a pretty poor excuse and pretty huge plot hole if you ask me. Personally, I would take my chances with a walker guts suit versus fighting a legion of zombies.
But, another plot hole arises when you consider Michonne’s strategy. In season 2 and Season 3 of The Walking Dead, Michonne can be seen walking around with two zombie pets.
It seems strange that Michonne used this technique for so long, protecting her and Andrea, but then the show decides to never do it again.
While it is clear that these changes were all done to advance the storyline, it seems so obvious that either the characters on The Walking Dead are extremely stupid or there are major plot holes in the show.
The Walking Dead returns with the mid-season premiere on February 14th on AMC.
