Vin Diesel reveals the last time he saw Paul Walker alive and it’s heartbreaking
With less than a week to go until Furious 7 hits theaters, Vin Diesel shared another story about one of the last times he spoke to the man he called his “brother Pablo,” Paul Walker.
Unlike most of Vin Diesel other stories, this story is heartbreaking.
In November 2013, Vin Diesel was filming a dangerous stunt scene for ‘Furious 7’ which called for his character, Dom Toretto, to drive into danger in order to save his ‘Fast and Furious’ family. In the film, the stunt leaves Toretto lifeless, with Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, rushing to revive him. While filming the scene Vin said he suddenly started imagining his own death, saying “I started to think, ‘what would happen to Paul Walker if I died?”
The stunt impacted DIesel so much that when he met up with Paul Walker after the shoot he told him, “If I do die, let them know what kind of brother I’ve been to you.” The two actors hugged, and soon parted ways. Little did Vin Diesel know, it would be Paul Walker who was tragically killed just two weeks later. What makes it all more tragic is that their meeting following that dangerous stunt scene was the last time Vin would ever see his friend.
Filming for ‘Furious 7’ stopped for a month following Paul Walker’s death in order for the script to be rewritten to write Paul Walker’s character out in a respectable way. However, Vin Diesel admitted that he wasn’t even sure if he could come back to continue working on the film. Finally he gave in but only because he was sure that it was what Paul would have wanted.
In order to finish filming the movie, Paul Walker’s two brothers, Caleb and Cody stepped in to finish the scenes. In combination with CGI, producers were able to make it look like Paul had acted through the entire movie.
By the end of the movie, the cast and crew of ‘Furious 7’ felt they had created a movie that was tribute to their family, and on April 3rd the world will see the last and final movie of Paul Walker’s career.
