Will Smith’s Academy Award Speech is Amazing

During his Academy Awards acceptance speech for best actor, Will Smith addressed slapping Chris Rock.

Will Smith is an actor who has starred in many popular films. He is also a producer and rapper. On September 25, 1968, Will Smith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He first rose to fame as a rapper under The Fresh Prince’s stage name.

 In 1990, Will Smith began starring in the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The show was a huge success, and Will Smith’s career took off. He has since starred in many hit movies, including Independence Day, Men in Black, Bad Boys, and I Am Legend. Will Smith is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood today.

Smith had an eventful evening at the 2022 Academy Awards. He won his first Oscar for his lead role as Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams, in King Richard. Smith spent a significant amount of his speech addressing an unscripted and distressing incident from earlier in the night when he walked on stage to slap Chris Rock. Smith had been offended by a quip about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. “Love makes you do crazy things,” he declared during his address. He stated that he was defending his family and likened himself to Richard Williams.

Following the presentation of the Best Documentary Oscar, Rock made several jokes about those in attendance. He referred to Pinkett-Smith as looking forward to seeing her in a G.I. Jane sequel. Jennifer Pinkett-Smith has openly discussed her battle with Alopecia and was sporting a buzz cut at the Oscars. She shook her head disapprovingly at the remark. Despite initially feigning amusement, Smith eventually joined on stage to punch the standup comic. “Keep my wife’s name out of your f-cking mouth,” Smith addressed Rock twice.

Smith became tearful when he won the Best Actor Oscar, and he likened himself to Richard Williams, who was often criticized in the media as a meddlesome parent.

“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, at this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world,” Smith said.

“I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people. And to be a river to my people. And I know to do what we do, you’ve got to be able to take abuse, and you’ve got to have people talk crazy about you. In this business, you’ve got to be able to have people disrespecting you, and you’ve got to smile and pretend like that’s okay.”

Denzel Washington, who was sitting in the crowd, called out to Smith at that moment in his speech. During a commercial break, Denzel Washington had consoled Smith. “Denzel said to be a few minutes ago, at your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you,” Smith said. “I want to be a vessel for love.”

He went on to thank the Williams Family, the cast and crew of the movie, and Venus and Serena Williams. He then apologized to everyone on that occasion for his conduct. “I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees,” he said.

Around the time when who prevented him from having a daughter of his own, Smith compared himself to the tennis stars. “Just like they said, I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to his mother, who he claimed was sitting with her “knitting crew” in Philadelphia, and his wife. “I’m taking up too much time. Thank you for this honor. And thank you for this moment. Thank you,” he concluded. “I hope the Academy invites me back.”
