According to Deadline, The movie's start has moved several times and Will Smith‘s decision to leave came down to timing. Previously, Russell Crowe was tapped to star in the movie. But, Crowe decided to back out of the production.
The movie centers on a world where a rare set of people are born with extraordinary abilities and are called “brilliants.” The movie revolves around a federal agent with great hunting gifts who is drafted to track down a terrorist, another brilliant who is planning to start a civil war.
Will Smith has been highly selective about what productions he will work on. Recently, he declined the offer to reprise his role in Independence Day sequel.
