World Premiere of Daniel Kaluuya’s Directorial Debut ‘The Kitchen’ Set for BFI London Film Festival

Date:

Daniel Kaluuya’s highly anticipated directorial debut, “The Kitchen,” is set to captivate audiences at the prestigious BFI London Film Festival.

The dystopian thriller, co-directed by Kaluuya and Kibwe Tavares, will take center stage as it celebrates its world premiere during the festival’s closing night gala on October 15. This exciting event will be held at the iconic Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. Following its debut, the film is set to make its mark across UK cinemas and will also be available for streaming on Netflix.

Kaluuya, not only the director but also a co-writer of the film, has assembled an impressive cast, including Top Boy sensation Kane Robinson (known as Kano), Jedaiah Bannerman, Hope Ikpoku Jr, Teija Kabs, Demmy Ladipo, Cristale, and BackRoad Gee. The film’s official synopsis paints a vivid picture of its gripping narrative:

“In a dystopian iteration of London, the chasm between the affluent and the marginalized has reached its breaking point. The landscape has been stripped of all forms of social housing except for the defiant enclave known as The Kitchen. Within its boundaries resides a steadfast community determined to hold onto its sense of home. Here, we encounter the solitary Izi (portrayed by Robinson), driven by the necessity to remain, fervently seeking an escape. Additionally, we meet 12-year-old Benji (Bannerman), who embarks on a quest for familial connection after losing his mother. Amidst a system rigged against them, we follow this unlikely duo’s poignant journey as they navigate the challenges of forming a bond.”

Marking its inception on October 4, the festival is scheduled to enthrall attendees until October 15.

In related entertainment news, Hayao Miyazaki’s upcoming U.S. premiere of “The Boy and the Heron” generates buzz as it prepares to enchant audiences at the New York Film Festival.
