Zendaya Becomes the Youngest Producing Nominee in Emmy History for ‘Euphoria

It is the first year a Black woman has won two acting awards and two songwriting honors in the same season.

Zendaya is the youngest producing nominee in history as an executive producer on Euphoria, which was recognized with an Outstanding Drama nomination. Additionally, Zendaya has been nominated for her performance on HBO’s drama series for the second time, making her the youngest two-time acting nominee ever.

Zendaya, who received four total nods for this year’s Emmys, set a new record last year by becoming the youngest lead actress drama winner. In history, (Euphoria) and the second Black woman to ever achieve such a feat after Viola Davis won for How to Get Away With Murder in 2015.

Additionally, with two entries in the original music and lyrics category (“Eliot’s Song” from Euphoria and “I’m Tired”), she is the first Black woman to be nominated for acting and songwriting in the same year.

The Drama Series, produced by Sam Levinson and written, directed, and executive produced by him, has garnered 16 Emmy nominations this year. The series stars Zendaya as well as Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney (in season 2), Barbie Ferreira, Alexa Demie, Javon Walton, Maude Apatow, Dominic Fike, Austin Abrams, Storm Reid and more.

The 74th Emmy Awards will air Monday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
