NBC’s ABFF Star Project 2016 is Looking for Aspiring Actors

American Black Film Festival 2016 is looking for aspiring actors.

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) is a five day event that is focused on showcasing quality movies by and about people American black people. The mission of the ABFF is to provide a playform for new Black talent to appear in front of Hollywood’s biggest movers and shakers. In addition, the ABFF provides opportunities for Black people in front and behind the camera and is currently seen as the nation’s largest gathering of Black film and TV enthusiasts.

Each year the ABFF holds several screening committees to evaluate the year’s film submissions based on the following criteria:

World Premiere Status/Limited Screening History Preferred
Artistic and Technical Merit (script, direction, acting, production value, uniqueness etc.)

About the American Black Film Festival:

Since the ABFF first started the program has provided a platform for more than 850 narrative feature films, documentaries, short films and web series. In fact, veteran producer Will Packer (Ride Along) and Creed’s Ryan Coogler all started their careers at the American Black Film Festival.

ABFF STAR PROJECT

Submission period:  December 15, 2015 – first 500 actors submitted/OR February 1st, 2016

The ABFF Star Project is sponsored by NBCUniversal and is designed to discover & nurture fresh aspiring actors.

This June, three top finalists will audition live for NBCUniversal Talent Development Executives. They will be flown to Miami, Florida for the American Black Film Festival and if able to attend, receive a Collins Pass to official screenings and events and offered a scholarship to Bill Duke’s Actors Bootcamp. Top Winner will receive a $1000 Grant to use toward further training and and additional $500 towards professional head shots.

 

To Submit:

1. Read the Official Rules.

2. Download Monologue Options and Self-Tape Instructions.

3. Self-tape TWO monologues and upload them as per the instructions.

4. Complete the online submission form.

We will take the first 500 submissions. Submissions must be in by February 1st, 2016 at 11:59PM.

June 18th: Finalists live audition in the morning / Award 1 winner that night

Finalist Prize (3):

  • 2 night hotel stay & coach RT airfare for 3 finalists to Miami for Festival
  • Collins Pass to experience official ABFF events & screenings provided by ABFF
  • Scholarship to participate in Bill Duke’s Actors Bootcamp (if finalists choose to pay for additional hotel nights)

Grand Prize Winner (1):

  • $1,000 for acting classes
  • $500 for headshots
  • Opportunity to meet with NBCU Casting Execs
  • VIP Access to NBCU Short Film Finale
  • Name announced in ABFF Wrap Release

Please note:

  • We will accept online submissions only; no mail-in submissions will be accepted.
  • Sponsor will only contribute five hundred dollars ($500) towards each finalist’s travel and accommodations to the Festival.
  • Failure to comply with the above instructions will result in disqualification.
  • Late submissions will not be accepted for any reason.
