How an Aspiring Actor Used YouTube to Get a Role on ‘Game of Thrones’

Date:

Game of Thrones gave an aspiring actor a role after watching him on YouTube.

Everyone would love a role on Game of Thrones. After studies have shown that a role on Game of Thrones leads to bigger acting jobs, it seems like a no brainer that any actor would die for a role on the hit HBO series. And this one aspiring actor used YouTube to land the biggest role of his life.

Steve Love is an aspiring comedian who’s known for doing Game of Thrones impressions and last week he appeared in a cameo on the latest episode of HBO’s hit fantasy drama, and spoke to how his involvement in the show came about.

After appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live to showcase his accurate impression of Jon Snow, Love was offered the opportunity to travel to Ireland for a small role on the show.

“I was contacted by the Game of Thrones producers after I was on Kimmel, and they asked if I wanted to be on the show and I was like ‘Yes!'”, Love told CTV News. “So then I contacted them back afterwards and was like ‘I don’t know what your plan is for me, but it would really mean a lot to me if you gave me one of those trademark gruesome death scenes.'”

He then received a reply that according to love, “basically said, ‘Actually, Steve, that was exactly what we had in mind. You’ll bite the bullet, don’t worry.'”

So, on Game of Thrones’ latest episode “No One” Love’s character was decapitated by the Hound (Rory McCann).

This is not the first time this has happened. Many casting directors have said they are looking for more and more aspiring actors for roles on social media. In fact, several casting directors have basically said acting talent doesn’t matter and the number of social media followers is more important. If you want to become an actor, then you better grab your camera and start filming. Because Hollywood is changing and Game of Thrones is just another show that is searching YouTube for new talent.
