Casting Call for CFC Writers Lab Short Film “In Development”
Job Details: We are currently casting for various roles in four CFC (Canadian Film Centre) projects. The shooting locations will be in Toronto, and the production dates are scheduled from November 11th to 19th, 2023. This includes one shoot day plus up to 4 hours of unpaid rehearsal time.
Rate/Union: This is a non-paying opportunity, and we are open to both Union and Non-Union performers.
Project Title: Eyes Open
Character Description:
- ALBA [LEAD]:
- Gender: Female
- Age: 65-75

- Description: Alba is the matriarch of the family, a widow, and a single mother. She possesses a strong will and is known for her stubbornness. Alba faced the daunting task of rebuilding her life after the passing of her husband, Rafael, following a prolonged battle with cancer when her daughters were 16 and 9 years old. Struggling through a period of severe depression, Alba ultimately found strength with the support of her eldest daughter, Carmen, and took up a job as a cleaning woman to provide for her family. Recently, she has been diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer, but she chooses to keep this information a secret, fearing her family’s reaction. In spite of this, she decides to embark on a last-minute trip to Colombia for her niece’s wedding. Alba speaks with a Colombian accent.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare for the role by understanding and embodying Alba’s character, including her emotional journey, relationships, and motivations.
- Collaborate with the director and fellow cast members during rehearsals and on-set to bring the character to life.
- Deliver lines convincingly while maintaining emotional authenticity and staying true to Alba’s Colombian heritage.
Requirements:
- Must be a female actor aged between 65-75 years.
- Latinx ethnicity.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Ability to adopt and maintain a Colombian accent.
- Strong acting skills, especially in portraying complex emotions and character depth.

- Experience in similar roles is a plus but not required.
- Must be available to shoot in Toronto.
Compensation:
- Pay: $3,000 if selected.
