Harry Potter Villain Voiced Star Wars Rebels’ Character: Behind-The-Scenes Story.

Date:

Key Takeaways:
– Dave Filoni, supervising director for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, wanted actor Jason Isaacs involved in the show.
– Isaacs, known for his villainous role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, was eventually given a role in Star Wars Rebels.
– Filoni and other producers believed Isaacs’ cool demeanor and experience with villainous roles rendered him the perfect fit for the character of The Grand Inquisitor.

A Tale of Villains: Harry Potter Meets Star Wars

In the magical world of Harry Potter, villains are plentiful. Notably, actor Jason Isaacs left a chilling impression with his portrayal of sinister character Lucius Malfoy, Draco Malfoy’s father and servant to Lord Voldemort. Little did we know that this role would pique the interest of Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director, Dave Filoni.

Filoni’s Fascination with Isaacs

Back in 2011, Dave Filoni was focused on his work with the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Amidst it, his interest in Isaacs’ work kept growing. Acknowledging his affinity for the actor, Filoni shared in an Star Wars Insider Magazine interview, “I wanted to put him into The Clone Wars for a long time, but I just didn’t have the character that I thought was the right fit for him.”

The Perfect Role for Isaacs Revealed

It wasn’t long before Filoni and his associates, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman, realized Isaacs’ villainous demeanor would be perfect for the roles of either an Inquisitor or an Imperial officer. Consequently, Isaacs was approached to voice a character in Star Wars Rebels, to which he agreed. Highlighting the reasons behind their decision, Filoni listed Isaacs’ coolness and superb portrayal of villainous roles.

Isaacs: More Than Voice Talent

Beyond lending his voice, Isaacs brought significant contributions to the production. Filoni was full of praises for the Harry Potter star stating, “Jason had a calm coolness in his voice and he’s very well-schooled in what makes an excellent bad guy.” Filoni went on to explain that Isaacs had a lot of input into what gives the Inquisitor a unique edge over plain villains – the element that makes him potent.

The Birth of the Grand Inquisitor

While originally intended for The Clone Wars, Isaacs found his place in the Star Wars universe through the 2014 animated series Star Wars Rebels. He assumed the role of The Grand Inquisitor, leaving his unique imprint on yet another villainous character. The show ran for four successful seasons before its conclusion in 2018.

Star Wars Rebels: The Legacy

Star Wars Rebels hit it big with audiences, generating an 8.1/10 rating on IMDb and a stunning 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes. With four seasons in its kitty, the 2014 series continues to be available for streaming on Disney+ in the U.S., maintaining its iconic status among Star Wars followers worldwide.

This whole scenario underlines how the world of art is connected. A character’s portrayal in one franchise, Harry Potter, influenced its casting in another, Star Wars, bridging the gap and creating a unique blend for audiences to cherish. It points to the magic of storytelling and universality of art while giving kudos to the versatility and talent of artists like Jason Isaacs. For Star Wars fans, it’s fascinating to see how characters we love (or love to hate) evolve from unexpected influences.
