Steve Martin Takes a Pass on Portraying VP Hopeful Tim Walz on SNL

Date:

Key Takeaways:

– Steve Martin has turned down Saturday Night Live’s invitation to play Vice Presidential hopeful Tim Walz.
– Saturday Night Live is preparing for the 2024 Presidential Election with top-tier talent to portray candidates.
– Maya Rudolph will be reprising her role as Kamala Harris on the show.
– Steve Martin, while admired as a great pick for the role, insists SNL needs a “real impressionist” for the part.

Now, let’s dive into the details.

SNL Eyes Top Talent for Election Specials

Folks, as the 2024 Presidential Election is heating up in the United States, everybody’s favorite late-night comedy show, Saturday Night Live, has its eyes set on big stars to portray the candidates. They’ve already bagged the talented Maya Rudolph to get back in her role as Vice President Kamala Harris. That’s pretty cool, isn’t it?

Guess who they had on their radar for the role of Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz? It’s none other than Steve Martin! Yep, you heard it right. The idea was to have the comedy legend transform into Walz for a bunch of guest spots before the election. Cool plan, don’t you think?

Steve Martin Says No Thanks

But here’s a twist. Believe it or not, the comedian Steve Martin, who’s been doing amazing work in the Hulu show Only Murders in the Building, isn’t super interested in getting back to SNL. Fans were really looking forward to it when the idea of him playing Walz started buzzing online. So, the SNL boss, Lorne Michaels, gave Martin a ring to see if he was up for it. But, guess what? Martin turned it down!

He opened up to the Los Angeles Times about it, saying, “I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no. I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not an impressionist. You need someone who can really nail the guy.’ I was picked because I have gray hair and glasses.”

Martin’s SNL Legacy Continues

While he isn’t a regular on the SNL, Steve Martin has an impressive history with the show. Did you know he has hosted SNL a whopping 16 times since 1976? Now, that’s a legacy! But as far as playing Walz is concerned, Martin insists that SNL find a real impressionist for the role. He said, “Again, they need a real impressionist to do that. They’re gonna find somebody really, really good. I’d be struggling.”

What’s Martin Up to Now?

As it goes, Steve Martin is busy with his hit show on Hulu, Only Murders in the Building. He’s sharing the space with Martin Short and Selena Gomez. The show is gearing up for its fourth season, which will be on Hulu from August 27. This season promises to be a lot more exciting as we’ll see new faces joining the cast.

So, Who’s Next for Walz on SNL?

Now that Steve Martin isn’t up for playing Walz, let’s watch and see who SNL ropes in next for the role. Got any suggestions? Drop them in the comments section. Don’t forget, SNL returns to NBC on September 28. Can’t wait!

Remember folks, the fun of SNL is in the surprise. So, keep your guesses coming and stay tuned for more news.
