The Wait Continues: Marvel Striving for Perfection with New ‘Blade’ Movie

Date:

Key Takeaways:

– The new ‘Blade’ reboot movie from Marvel is taking longer than expected due to a careful development process.
– Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige says they are striving to make the right ‘Blade’ movie, hinting at an R-rating.
– Director shifts have caused delays with Yann Demange recently stepping away from the project.
– Oscar-winning actor, Mahershala Ali, is rumored to be frustrated with the slow development process.
– Other cast changes, including Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre, have also added to the project’s evolving nature.

In 2019, when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con of a ‘Blade’ reboot, fans were ecstatic. Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali was confirmed to play the title role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Now, five years on, the eagerly awaited ‘Blade’ reboot has still not materialized. The closest we’ve come to it is Ali’s voice cameo as the Blade character in 2021’s ‘Eternals.’

Marvel Studios: A Deliberate Approach

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios producer, has been on the press circuit for the most recent MCU film, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ In an interview with BlackTreeTV, he revealed that Marvel is not rushing with the ‘Blade’ project. Emphasizing a measured approach, Feige implies that taking their time ensures they create the movie that ‘Blade’ deserves. After all, prior ‘Blade’ films, like ‘Deadpool’, were rated R, fitting in with Blade’s edgy character.

When asked if the R-Rating of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is influencing ‘Blade,’ Feige confirmed that this factor could play an essential role in the reboot’s rating. The collective focus is on creating the best ‘Blade’ movie possible, even if that means following in the R-Rated footsteps of previous iterations.

The Director’s Chair: A Revolving Door

Yann Demange had initially been tasked to direct the new ‘Blade’ movie. In fact, he had confirmed as recently as last November that the film would also carry an R-rating. However, Demange has now left the project, following a similar route as director Bassam Tariq, who also vacated the director’s chair before him. Currently, we await news on who will take over the directorial reigns from Demange.

An Emerging Portrait of Frustration?

As the development of ‘Blade’ stretches on, rumblings have emerged that Mahershala Ali is becoming frustrated with the slow progress. Additionally, casting changes have seen Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre leave the project as their roles were reportedly written out of the script. Despite this, Mia Goth, rumored to be playing the antagonist Lilith, remains attached to the project. Reportedly, she’s okay with the delays and views them as a sign of Marvel’s commitment to the film’s quality.

In conclusion, it is evident that Marvel Studios is prioritizing detail and quality over haste in the development of the ‘Blade’ reboot. Despite the delay and some bumps in the road, if Feige’s comments are anything to go by, the patience of ‘Blade’ fans around the world might soon pay off with a superb installment in the MCU.
