Cannes 2023 will be the site of HBO and The Weeknd’s world premiere screening for ‘The Idol’ – an event sure to captivate audiences from all over the globe!
We are pleased to announce that HBO and The Weeknd’s highly-anticipated drama series, The Idol, has been chosen as an Official Selection Out of Competition at the 2023 Festival de Cannes.
The Cannes Delegate General, Thierry Frémaux, confirmed that award-winning artist The Weeknd would attend this year’s festival. He highlighted that since he is a regular patron of the festival, it has become a tradition for him to personally visit to watch and assess the entries competing at Cannes. In addition, his attendance comes as no surprise because he was known to have previously visited covertly on numerous occasions.
How many episodes will debut at the Cannes Film Festival is unknown.
The Idol is a star-studded production that features The Weeknd as Tedros and Lily-Rose Depp as Jocelyn. Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey Suzanna Son, and Hank Azaria have parts in the film. “After a nervous breakdown derailed Jocelyn’s (Lily-Rose Depp) last tour, she’s determined to claim her rightful status as the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her passions are reignited by Tedros (Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye), a nightclub impresario with a sordid past.
