Saint Laurent Unveils New Film Production Subsidiary

Date:

Saint Laurent has recently announced the launch of their new film production subsidiary, ushering in a wave of creativity and originality to an ever-evolving industry.

The esteemed French house Saint Laurent is preparing to make its cinematic debut later this year – an exciting event for luxury fashion lovers everywhere! Under the creative guidance of Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent Productions proudly announces its debut in film production.

Cannes Film Festival will be the launching pad for our film subsidiary, with three highly anticipated films from acclaimed filmmakers. To kick off its launch, Saint Laurent Productions is proud to present Strange Way of Life by Pedro Almodóvar featuring the dynamic duo of Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.

Gucci is blazing the trail by establishing a registered subsidiary to produce films, pioneering an unprecedented approach within its Kering-owned fashion house. Even if cinemas do not technically fall under the “fashion film” umbrella, they are still expected to significantly boost the visibility and appreciation of the brand’s aesthetic. The division will generate sizable returns by selling our films to exhibitors, including movie theaters, streaming services, TV networks, and more.

Vaccarello, appointed as Saint Laurent’s artistic director in 2016, declared that this new department will allow him to explore his creative vision “the opportunity to expand the vision I have for Saint Laurent through a medium that has more permanence than clothes.” He added, “You can still see a film in 10 or 30 years if it’s good. In some ways, making a film can be more impactful than a seasonal collection. For me, it’s a natural extension to another field of creativity that perhaps is more general and popular.”

Saint Laurent Productions is the first full-fledged film production venture to be launched under a fashion label, pioneering innovation in an industry. The revered works of Academy Award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg (“The Shrouds”), Abel Ferrara, Wong Kar Wai, Jim Jarmusch, and Gaspar Noé are currently in active development. Vaccarello announced that Saint Laurent Productions would aim to co-produce two or three movies each year shortly. The artistic director is confident that his groundbreaking cinematic creation perfectly embodies the spirit of Saint Laurent.
