Low-Key Launch Predicted for ‘The Crow’ and ‘Blink Twice’

Date:

Key Takeaways
– Lionsgate and Warner Bros.’ new releases, ‘The Crow’ and ‘Blink Twice’, are projected to have a humble opening weekend.
– Despite a solid director, ‘The Crow’ has faced negative reviews and is anticipated to open at approximately $7 million.
– The excitement around Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut, ‘Blink Twice’, could slightly eclipse ‘The Crow’ with an estimated $9 million take.
– ‘Alien: Romulus’, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, and ‘It Ends With Us’ also are expected to make waves at the weekend box office.

And we’re off to the races with the end of August, a time traditionally known to feature some less than stellar movie drops. This year, unfortunately, seems to be following the trend, with Lionsgate’s ‘The Crow’ and Warner Bros.’ ‘Blink Twice’ not raising much anticipation among moviegoers.

Giving ‘The Crow’ A Second Glance

At one point, ‘The Crow’, based on the comic book series of the same name, was touted as a potent contender—director Rupert Wyatt, known for ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, was behind the helm, and Bill Skarsgard was cast as the lead. But, the initial buzz has since fizzled out, largely due to dismal early reviews and the underwhelming performance of first-look images featuring Skarsgard as the eponymous character.

The flair and fandom initially associated with ‘The Crow’ seem to be struggling now. The legacy left by the original hit film starring Brandon Lee is a tough act to follow, and this latest attempt by Lionsgate seems to be having a hard time. Despite casting a broad net, the film’s expected opening falls flat at around the $7 million mark, dumping it in the fifth place.

Meanwhile, Zoe Kravitz has made her directorial debut with ‘Blink Twice’. This surreal piece not only showcases a new facet of Kravitz’s talent but also an unusual performance from co-star Channing Tatum. With a budget of $20 million and early reviews that lean toward positive, ‘Blink Twice’ is looking to score an approximate $9 million opening draw.

Top Contenders at the Box-Office

Leaving the quieter zone of predicted box office figures, we’re entering big blockbuster territory. ‘Alien: Romulus’ is set to capture the flag with an impressive $18 million estimated weekend box office collection, followed by ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, nipping at its heels with a cool $16 million. Lastly, ‘It Ends With Us’ is expected to celebrate hitting the $100 million mark with an $11 million weekend collection.

So, the weekend scoreboard looks something like this:
– ‘Alien: Romulus’: $18 million
– ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: $16 million
– ‘It Ends With Us’: $11 million
– ‘Blink Twice’: $9 million
– ‘The Crow’: $7 million

Will ‘The Crow’ fly higher than predicted, or will it land with a thud? Time will tell. Until then, grab some popcorn and get ready for a rollercoaster weekend at the movies!
