Male. 40s. Seeking talent who identify as LGBTQIA+. Before Julie, Alex was a carefree young dentist on the rise and a diehard Gaga fan. Then he held tiny precious Julie in his arms…and realized EVERYTHING COULD KILL HER. Where he was once over-analytical and meticulous…he’s since crossed over into being neurotic, hypochondriacal and overprotective. You’d think that’d be a pain in the butt for Julie to deal with – but she actually sees a lot of herself in her Baba, being so risk-averse herself. Alex knows he’s the “nerd” of the couple, his passion for DND does not out-glam his partner James’s charismatic drag queen persona. But he’s relieved because that means someone in the family can answer Julie’s questions about popularity. He’s overwhelmingly happy with his life and his little family, so long as they floss twice a day.

Allen V. Astin (1940 – 1953 or 36 to 49 years old)

Actor preferably in his 40s. Astin was an introvert, quiet, integral, and honest man. He was a man of science and had a quiet bravery to him. He loved to smoke his pipe. When you asked him a question he would pause and puff on the pipe, about ten seconds worth. His responses were always very measured, thoughtful, and helpful. He was married with two boys. 

Background:

Allen Varley Astin was born on June 12, 1904. He was an American physicist who served as director of the United States’ National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology) from 1951 until 1969. During the Second World War he worked on the proximity fuse. He was an advocate for the introduction of metric weights and measures to the United States.

He was the eldest of three children. His mother was a school teacher in Utah. Astin’s father died when he was only four years old. He graduated from the University of Utah’s physics program and in 1928 was granted a PhD in physics from New York University. That same year, Astin obtrained a two-year fellowship for studies at John’s Hopkins University. Upon completing the fellowship he secured a staff position at the National Bureau of Standards, eventually working his way up to his appointment as Director in May, 1952.

Seeking a Key Grip for an NYU Thesis Film shooting May 28-30 & June 4-5 in NJ.

Unusual Ceremonies is a short film about two young women grappling with their feelings of romantic and sexual attraction on the night they are to “pledge their virginity to Christ” at a purity ball.

The script is an official selection for the European Independent Film Festival and we can’t wait to bring it to screen.

Shoot is unpaid, but travel, food, lodging, and credit Is provided. Great opportunity for recent grads or folks looking to get more g&e experience. We will be staying overnight In NJ the first weekend.
