The Director of Brand, Editorial will play a key role in driving new revenue opportunities for Skybound Editorial (including comics, books and related Kickstarter campaigns).

The Director of Brand will be responsible for shaping the sales strategies around new and ongoing projects, while also playing a key role in further developing our comics-focused DTC (Direct To Consumer) streaming success for the most passionate fans and collectors.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead development of Sales & Marketing strategy around Editorial lines of business (Direct Market, Book Market, DTC), including communicating plans to key Skybound and Partner contacts to ensure successful execution.
  • Key contact for Book Market needs from publishing and distribution partners, including presentations to key buyers.
  • Execute yearly Events schedule, including acting as key speaker and on-the-ground project manager.
  • Develop additional marketing materials including trailers, sell sheets, promotional items, etc.
  • Nurture relationships with key Direct Market and Book Market retail partners to drive sales and gain further insight on retailer needs.
  • Manage Ops systems around sales reporting, data integrity and metadata communications.
  • Oversee 2-3 direct reports in the Brand, Editorial team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of experience in comic book marketing, communications and/or sales is preferred.
  • Candidate must have experience and demonstrated success with talent relations.
  • Candidate must have expertise in current comic book market trends, especially in relation to the collectors market and book market.
  • Strong strategic thinker, able to articulate goals, and present collaborative solutions to achieve them.
  • A self-starter who can work independently or with minor supervision in a fast pace, multi-project, and process-oriented environment by balancing time on competing priorities.

Job Type: Regular, Full-Time

Salary Range: $105,000-115,000

  • Actual base salary is dependent on several factors including but not limited to; market dynamics, location and region, experience, specialized skills/training (education), level of responsibility, budgetary considerations, tenure at the company (for current employees), etc
  • The salary range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees
  • Compensation decisions are dependent on circumstances of each role

The Senior Manager of Games Publicity g plays a key role within the Skybound Entertainment consumer products division where we are launching video games, board games, collectibles, and merchandise for diehard fans, community, and loyal customers.

The Senior Manager of Games Publicity will be responsible for getting the word out and shaping the public narrative around Skybound’s exciting line-up of both digital video game and tabletop game products. You will be responsible for working hand in hand with our Brand Marketing team and managing a group of external global agencies to support the go-to-market campaigns for all Skybound’s game projects. This includes new digital games published by Skybound and, in conjunction with external partners, Skybound-licensed digital game projects and digital game physical edition releases. You will also work closely with our tabletop games division to create and execute product-driven PR for all our tabletop game projects.

As the subject matter expert on games PR in our Marketing organization, this role has room for significant growth and increased management potential.

Reports: This position will report to the Head of Corporate Communications and Managing Partner

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies for video game and tabletop game releases, aligning with overall company objectives.
  • Manage PR across Skybound’s video and tabletop games slate.
  • Lead the planning and execution of PR campaigns for product launches, updates, and special events, collaborating closely with internal teams and external agencies. Collaborate closely with Brand and Marketing Managers on strategy and go-to-market planning.
  • Drive media relations and press coverage for initial release announcements, previews, and reviews.
  • Manage our external agency partnerships, budgets, and strategy across the games slate.
  • Work closely with partners for licensed IP and ensure Skybound is properly represented in their interactive games.
  • Manage PR budgets across the portfolio, working with brand and finance to find the right solutions across multiple product types and budget sizes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging opportunities to inform PR strategies.
  • Oversee the establishment of best practices for product PR across our games divisions. Testing and learning to find the optimal approach for each type of product.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Head of Corporate Communications to ensure the Skybound brand is represented throughout all of our game product campaigns.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in video games PR, with at least some of that experience managing external, global PR agencies to support video game launches.
  • Experience in consumer or games adjacent media relations, campaign building, and marketing are welcome expertise as we look to differentiate our PR approach.
  • Brings with them significant relationships across media, first party, and other game industry stakeholders to Skybound.
  • 3+ or more years of experience with team leadership and direct report management/development.
  • Direct experience managing budgets and negotiating with agency partners.
  • A self-starter who can work independently or with minor supervision in a fast pace, multi-project, and process-oriented environment by balancing time on competing priorities.
  • Ability to spot problems before they arise, and constantly looking to improve processes.
  • A pro at presenting to the executive level, both internally and externally.
  • A willingness to roll up their sleeves on execution as we continue to grow our internal PR team.

Opportunity

Skybound is looking for an owner-minded Senior Marketing Manager to pilot promotional efforts on a new slate of games. As Senior Marketing Manager, you will work from the earliest stages of development, using research to identify player communities, contribute to product definition and feature set, and define product vision and positioning. Throughout production, you will serve as a critical stakeholder, representing the customer at all times, and engineering your own success by providing input into development investments, feature priorities and quality standards.

As Senior Marketing Manager, you will leverage insights to build a go-to-market strategy which you lead a team to execute. You’ll inform the initial bedrock of game investments via the product P&L, bringing to bear strong genre sensibilities and a broad knowledge of previous titles and player communities. You’ll collaborate across Skybound to create and implement a game launch and player communication strategy spanning community, digital storefronts, influencers, content creation, social channels, events and trade shows, paid media and PR.

Reports: This position will report to Skybound’s VP of Games Marketing

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Inform green light decisions by building a product P&L and investment recommendation informed by player communities, market analysis, and your own sensibilities
  • Work directly with development partners on product definition and player fit
  • Leverage customer and competitive insights to create and validate product positioning, genre values, customer segmentation and critical features
  • Own the go-to-market road map, integrating plans from every promotional vertical, including PR, social, digital storefronts, paid media, influencers, CRM, content, loyalty programs, trade shows and other channels
  • Work with internal and external creative, media and digital agencies to manage brand identity, producing key art, slogans, screenshots, trailers, websites and other creative assets
  • Capture post-launch sentiment and provide customer priorities for live service product updates
  • Manage ongoing product marketing needs and promotions for catalog titles
  • Build your team; contribute to org design, role definitions and hiring priorities for reporting and supporting roles
  • Find players wherever they are (on websites, Reddit, Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram…), and work with our community teams to support them
  • Manage and report on marketing KPI’s for your games to identify opportunities and challenges
  • Represent marketing initiatives with senior leadership; help guide corporate strategies

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in consumer and product marketing, preferably in games
  • Track record for launching and sustaining digital products or services
  • Results-oriented, with an understanding of how to apply ROI and KPI’s for marketing campaigns
  • Skilled in data analysis and reporting, particularly for launch marketing campaigns
  • Strong product management experience, with understanding of live service product life cycles
  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments at once
  • Polished professional who is comfortable serving as the main contact for executives, internal stakeholders, partners, and third-party agencies
  • Self-starter and strong team player who can work independently and responsibly
  • Strong spoken/written communicator with the ability to develop creative, clear, and concise storytelling for a variety of audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep passion for Skybound IP, including Invincible and The Walking Dead
  • Game industry experience as a professional and a player
  • Deep experience building and serving gamer communities
  • Owner mindset, results orientation, generous with feedback and coaching
  • Prior experience as the go-to-market lead on a successful game title
  • Just as quirky and passionate about gaming and Skybound as we are!
