Job Description: We are currently seeking talented performers for four distinct projects under the CFC Writers Lab Shorts program, titled “In Development.” These shorts will be shot in various locations in Toronto.
Job Responsibilities:
- Role: Debra Braden [LEAD]
- Character Description: Debra Braden is a middle-aged mermaid, aged between 40-50, open to performers of any ethnicity and ability. She defies conventional mermaid depictions seen in mainstream media. Debra exudes a rough-around-the-edges charm, bearing the marks of life’s challenges with a few missing scales. The narrative revolves around a documentary series exploring her unique existence. Debra grapples with a lifetime of rejection, loss, and the weight of being different. The role demands a strong comedic sensibility and precise timing.
Requirements:
- Age Range: 40-50
- Gender: Female
- Ethnicity: Any
- Ability: Open to performers of all abilities
Shooting Details:
- Location: Toronto, Canada
- Outside Dates: November 11th – 19th, 2023
- Shoot Day: 1 day
- Unpaid Rehearsal Time: Up to 4 hours
Rate/Union:
- This is a non-paying role. We welcome both Union and Non-Union performers to audition.

- Confidently handle a pool stick, align shots accurately, and execute them flawlessly in front of a crowd.
- Collaborate with the director and production team to ensure the visual continuity between the actress and the body double.
- Maintain professionalism and follow directions to achieve the desired results for the campaign.
Requirements:
- Female, aged 25-40.
- Height: 5’8” to 5’10”.
- Medium brown complexion (please refer to the photo in the casting notice for reference).
- Must be a highly skilled pool player, capable of performing advanced shots with confidence.
- Comfortable performing in a dynamic environment surrounded by party onlookers.
- Experience in similar roles is a plus but not required.
- Must be available to shoot in Toronto.
Compensation:
- Pay: $3,000 if selected.
- This is a non-union campaign.
